WEEK 6 EEL BINGO!!!

NEW GRAMMAR: Here are the new concepts we covered today. 

P.O.S: Conjunctions Chart H

A conjunction is a word used to connect words, phrases, or clauses together.

We talked about  Coordinating Conjunctions (because they are the CONNECTORS we will be using in here these next few weeks.) I briefly touched on Correlative Conjunctions, Subordinating Conjunction, Relative Pronoun, Conjunctive Adverbs

SENTENCE STRUCTURE: Chart G Compound A compound sentence consists of at least two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction.

So with a compound sentence, we will focus on FANBOYS. These are easy to identify.

PURPOSE: Declarative- makes a statement

PATTERN: S-Vt-DO,  In a Subject-Verb Transitive pattern, the verb transfers the action of the verb to a noun or pronoun (direct object) that follows it. To find the direct object, ask “(Subj.)(Verb) who or what?”

The class practiced this COMBO OF 3.

COMBO OF 3: We put these three combinations together to write a few sentences. 

#1:  Dictate sentence.

#2:  Check Mechanics.

#3:  Question confirmation.

#4:  Diagram Sentences.

 Julia started us off with some homemade strings! WTG Julia! Then the girls worked on Board Slam BINGO style. It was fun and passionate! :)

REVIEW: 

The students listened for the dress ups using our handy dandy worksheet. The four girls did amazing with their paper! I followed with a lame made up story on pumpkins. Despite the lameness, the kiddos were able to identify the borrowed conflict. Interesting enough, many common stories have common conflicts and morals.  

We brainstormed common stories/fairy tales and I wrote them on the board.  We took a little bit of time to go through the story sequence chart as a group with the Goldilocks story. Here is what we came up with so far. 

SO AT HOME, use any store or just complete what we started as a class. Have fun and let the kids be silly.  There will be plenty of time to write about Colonial America this year.  :)
