You will benefit by becoming familiar with the lessons of both EEL and IEW by reading these posts below in the left column. I will post this information each after our CC day.
You will also be encouraged and equipped by having the links in the right column always accessible. These links include calendar items, schedules, and resources. Take heart! YOU CAN DO THIS!

Week 19 and breaaaak!!

WEEK 19

Words of Encouragement
“Devote yourselves to prayer, always be watchful.”

At this point, there really isn't alot of new information to teach. It's more about expanding on previous content from here on.

EEL

REVIEW:
We started our day off by changing declarative sentences into interrogative. The girls did GREAT at this!

We then moved on to a fun listening activity to identify OCN/OCA sentences using the story- 3 Little Pigs. The class ROCKED this!

We also reviewed our particular COMBO OF 3: Cx, Int. OCN/OCA

MORE REVIEW:
We took another look at the 5 Principle Parts of a verb (the 5 forms a verb can take) This may seem like a meaningless exercise, but I guarantee that it is not.
Infinitive is to + a verb
Present todays form of verb
Past yesterdays form of verb (-ed)
Present Participle usually with helping verb (am are is was were being been) ends -ing
Past Participle use helping verb have has had end in -ed. en, t)
We took a little time to pick a principle part and identify which infinitive it belonged to.

DIALECTIC: We ended our EEL with UNDIAGRAMMING. This is another great way to interrogate our children! :) I would encourage you to do the same at home. Its so easy to do and sure does bring understanding.

MATH
We had so much fun playing GRID. This is when I had two boards with a mathematical grid to compute.

The girls all won a round of NERDS for working so hard to compute and find the answers. WAY TO GO GIRLS!! DO this at home! It is a great exercise!

IEW

REVIEW: We took time to listen to any polished papers from Unit 8. Julia was the only one to come up, which was fine because she had PLENTY of dress ups to go around. We used the tally chart to listen and mark how many dressups. Mrs. Strickland counted 42! :) WTG Julia! MOMS, remember, Julia is a sweet representation of what it looks like to be in your 3rd year. She has acquired much! 💗

NEW: Faces of History is one way to practice the techniques of essay writing as found in Unit 8 of the TWSS.

FACTS of this unit:
  1. The students select a character
  2. choose one to three topics about this person
  3. writing key word outlines from the sources
  4. fusing these outlines together
  5. Add dress ups and make beautiful paragraphs in 3rd person. (preferably, not mandatory)
  6. KWO a notecard in 1st person and prepare for presentation aka PREZI
  7. Present in character!

SO, this week and break is ALL ABOUT finalizing those topical paragraphs.

Important things to remember
  • If this is your student's first year, you may only want to choose one topic. That's perfectly OK.
  • Choose sources that are easy for your student to read and understand.
  • The first sentence of a paragraph must introduce the topic. The last sentence is the clincher and repeats or reflects key words from the topic sentence.
  • The key words are taken from the facts and not line by line. Only use the facts that your student finds interesting and important. Let this be their essay.
  • Limit the number of facts to their grade number.
  • If the essay is written in the 1st person, the word I is used but do not use the word you.
  • Review Unit 4, Unit 6, and read Unit 8 in your TWSS. Don't only rely on me as your guide. I'm no expert!
