THIS JUST IN---->National Number Knockout

Hi Emoms,

I'd like to share some news. Some might find this news as bittersweet, and some might not have any feelings as some of you are brand new. :)

Let me start with a little history before I share the news.
During our Math portion of Essentials in years past, we would utilize a game called BOARDSLAM. This was a game developed by Leigh Bortins, CC's founder. Over the years, the game gained traction with our communities, and was loved by many CC families, mine included.

THEN,  in 2013 a group of CC Alumni students, also known as Mandala Fellowship, sort of revamped Boardslam during one of their projects. They transformed this simple game into an official game with rules and rounds. This game was named National Number Knockout, and had sort of a boxing theme to it.

WHAT made this game so official? Not only was the new name all snazzy, but the game gained some official rules and boards and allowed our kids to go further into the game. Boardslam had a board of numbers 1-36, using the arithmetic operations to "slam" or "knockout" the numbers. With N2K, we can use different boards and broaden our knowledge with the rules and regulations, and even compete.

JUST like in Foundations, we allow our students to test for Memory Master at our local community. If a student wishes, they can compete Memory Master nationally. Our students now have an opportunity to master the N2K locally, and even compete nationally. This is so exciting!

So the NEWS, we are going to still be playing this game in class, but we will not be calling it Boardslam. The name has been retired! It's now officially called N2K or National Number Knockout. I have printed and laminated the official N2K boards for class use. I will walk you through the rules and how to play the entire first semester of Essentials. SO have no fear! We will learn the game together!!

If you'd like to learn more about N2K before then, head on over to N2K's website to take it all in. http://nationalnumberknockout.com/ You can also go here to download the official Rulebook for free!
